The volcano of the Los Nevados National Natural Park  is called The paramillo del Quindío. It offers perhaps the best panoramic view for the andean mountains of Colombia. It was in the past a nice snowy peak.  Its location between

The snowy mountains of Tolima, Santa Isabel and Ruiz allow the observation of the greatest attractions from the national park. The slopes of this mountain are considered the most beautiful in the world. 

 

3 Day Itinerary:

 

Day 1: Cocora Valley and Fog Forest

we will begin with a Breakfast in Salento and then a transportation in a traditional Willys Jeep  to the Cócora valley. The experience from the bottom of the Valley, through the Cárdenas River Canyon, will be the beginning. then, We will continue up until we reach the upper part of the canyon, take a refreshing lunch. We will arrive in the afternoon at a traditional peasant farm that will be our resting place and where we will share with the mountain family that lives there. 

 

Day 2: Wetlands and Paramillo del Quindío

After  an energetic breakfast, we will start the ascent route to our next way point, the Buenos Aires farm. From there, depending on the group, we will ascend to 4750 m and have reached the highest point of the hike.  We will continue our way to La Primavera farm at 3750m, where we will sleep that night. we will enjoy the Paramo,  a unique high-altitude ecosystem characterized by its famous flower, The frailejón, an unusual plant of the sunflower family, which is responssible for the creation of the water, since, it absorbs the humidity from the clouds through the flowers, and after filtering it, it releases the water through the roots. This process gives birth to the lakes on the high mountains, creeks and eventually rivers.

 

Day 3: Descending from  The Paramo

The return, will be done through a different path from the ascent. We will leave the La Primavera farm and head towards El Alto de la Virgen. We will continue our descent to the "Estrella de Agua" farm where we will enjoy a hot beberage. Later on the day, during our descent, we  will cross several times  the Quindío River, using hanging bridges to finally reach the Cócora Valley. Finally, we will get ona ride  to Salento, the  and oldest town in Quindío.
